Grammar Point:
When 就 jiù is used with 如果 rúguǒ, it usually implies that if the condition in the “if” clause is met or becomes true, then the result or consequence in the main clause will also happen. It can be translated as “in the case that” or “if…then…” in English

Structure

如果 rúguǒ ··· + 就 jiù ···

The “if” clause is necessary and the only requirement for the speaker. Also, “如果 rúguǒ” can be replaced by other “if” synonyms, such as “要是 yàoshìyàoshi,” “萬一万一 wànyī,” and “的話的话 dehuà.”

If I have a lot of money, I will buy a house.

If life could be restarted, I would buy a lottery ticket and then buy a house.

FYI
I’m pretty sure you can tell how badly I wanna buy a house, right?
Ah, have you ever wondered why so many Taiwanese people still live with their parents even when they’re adults? It’s because housing in Taiwan is just so affordable! Let me tell you, finding a place to live in Taipei is an absolute breeze! Want a little, tiny one-bedroom apartment? Easy peasy! You can rent one for a measly NT$17,000 (that’s about US$550) a month! And if you’re feeling like a big spender, you can always go for a three-bedroom place for just NT$50,000 (that’s only US$1,630) a month. No big deal, right? And if you’re looking to buy a house, oh boy, you’re in for a treat! You can easily get an old 2-bedroom apartment in Taipei for just NT$22.58 million (that’s a mere US$785,000).

Oh, let’s not forget how amazing salaries are in Taiwan! According to recent data, the average monthly salary in Taiwan is only around NT$30,000 to NT$50,000 (approximately US$980 to US$1,750). So, if you’re looking to buy a house, all you need to do is work for 60 years without spending any money, and voila, that beautiful property is all yours!

OneDotDot Chinese

Whenever I ask foreigners, "Do you speak Chinese?" they often reply, "a little bit" (yì diǎn diǎn). That inspired me to create this website and translate "yì diǎn diǎn" into the quirky and fun "One Dot Dot."

It’s also a reminder that learning Chinese is a journey, and progress happens one step at a time. By learning just a little bit every day, you’ll go far!
