Wugang fagui 2

“Wugang fagui” is a story for HSK2+ learners. Stories I shared some are Chinese folk tales, and some are my creations. 

This story is one of the most famous stories associated with the Moon Festival. However, there are three different versions of it, each with slight variations. So, if you hear a different story, don’t be surprised.

神shén問wèn吳剛Wúgāng你nǐ為什麼wèishénme想xiǎng當dāng神shén？ 神shén问wèn吴刚Wúgāng你nǐ为什么wèishénme想xiǎng当dāng神shén？

吳剛Wúgāng說shuō： 「 我wǒ想xiǎng飛fēi， 想xiǎng去qù月亮yuèliàng上shàng看看kànkan！ 」 吴刚Wúgāng说shuō： “ 我wǒ想xiǎng飞fēi， 想xiǎng去qù月亮yuèliang上shàng看看kànkan！ ”

神shén揮huī了le一下yíxià手shǒu， 兩人liǎngrén就jiù到dào了le月亮yuèliàng上shàng神shén挥huī了le一下yíxià手shǒu， 两人liǎngrén就jiù到dào了le月亮yuèliang上shàng

吳剛Wúgāng逛guàng了le逛guàng， 發現fāxiàn月亮yuèliàng上shàng什麼shénme都dōu沒有méiyǒu， 就jiù只zhǐ有yǒu一棵yìkē大dà樹shù。 吴刚Wúgāng逛guàng了le逛guàng， 发现fāxiàn月亮yuèliang上shàng什么shénme都dōu没有méiyǒu， 就jiù只zhǐ有yǒu一棵yìkē大dà树shù。

吳剛Wúgāng說shuō： 「 我wǒ看kàn完wán了le， 我們wǒmen回去huíqù吧ba！ 」 吴刚Wúgāng说shuō： “ 我wǒ看kàn完wán了le， 我们wǒmen回去huíqù吧ba！ ”

神shén說shuō： 「 我wǒ幫bāng你nǐ來lái， 但是dànshì你nǐ得děi自己zìjǐ想xiǎng辦法bànfǎ回去huíqù。 」 神shén说shuō： “ 我wǒ帮bāng你nǐ来lái， 但是dànshì你nǐ得děi自己zìjǐ想xiǎng办法bànfǎ回去huíqù。 ”

吳剛Wúgāng說shuō： 「 我wǒ不會búhuì飛fēi， 我wǒ怎麼zěnme能néng回去huíqù！ 」 吴刚Wúgāng说shuō： “ 我wǒ不会búhuì飞fēi， 我wǒ怎么zěnyāo能néng回去huíqù！ ”

神shén說shuō： 「 只要zhǐyào你nǐ把bǎ剛剛gānggāng看kàn到dào的de那nà棵kē樹shù砍倒kǎndǎo， 你nǐ就jiù能néng變成biànchéng神shén了le！ 」 神shén说shuō： “ 只要zhǐyào你nǐ把bǎ刚刚gānggāng看kàn到dào的de那nà棵kē树shù砍倒kǎndǎo， 你nǐ就jiù能néng变成biànchéng神shén了le！ ”

吳剛Wúgāng說shuō： 「 真的zhēnde嗎ma？ 沒問題méiwèntí！ 你nǐ應該yīnggāi早點zǎodiǎn告訴gàosù我wǒ， 當dāng神shén這麽zhèmo容易róngyì！ 」 吴刚Wúgāng说shuō： “ 真的zhēnde吗ma？ 没问题méiwèntí！ 你nǐ应该yìnggāi早点zǎodiǎn告诉gàosu我wǒ， 当dāng神shén这麽zhèmo容易róngyì！ ”

說shuō完wán， 神shén就jiù消失xiāoshī了le。 吳剛Wúgāng高興gāoxīng地de拿ná起qǐ斧頭fǔtóu開始kāishǐ砍樹kǎnshù。 说shuō完wán， 神shén就jiù消失xiāoshī了le。 吴刚Wúgāng高兴gāoxīng地de拿ná起qǐ斧头fǔtou开始kāishǐ砍树kǎnshù。

可是kěshì他tā不bù知道zhīdào這zhè棵kē樹shù叫jiào做zuò” 500 桂guì“ ， 是shì一棵yìkē必須bìxū不bù休息xiūxí連續liánxù砍kǎn500 下xià才cái會huì倒dǎo的de桂樹guìshù。 可是kěshì他tā不bù知道zhīdào这zhè棵kē树shù叫jiào做zuò” 500 桂guì“ ， 是shì一棵yìkē必须bìxū不bù休息xiūxi连续liánxù砍kǎn500 下xià才cái会huì倒dǎo的de桂树guìshù。

容易róngyì放棄fàngqì又yòu沒有méiyǒu耐心nàixīn的de吳剛Wúgāng怎麼zěnme可能kěnéng砍kǎn得de倒dǎo這zhè棵kē樹shù。 容易róngyì放弃fàngqì又yòu没有méiyǒu耐心nàixīn的de吴刚Wúgāng怎么zěnyāo可能kěnéng砍kǎn得de倒dǎo这zhè棵kē树shù。

Wugang Fagui English Translation

The god asked Wu Gang why he wanted to become a god. Wu Gang said, “I want to fly and go to the moon to have a look!” The god waved his hand, and the two of them went to the moon. Wu Gang looked around and found that there was nothing on the moon except for a big tree. Wu Gang said, “I’m done looking. Let’s go back!” The god said, “I can bring you here, but you have to find your own way back.” Wu Gang said, “I don’t know how to fly. How can I go back?” The god said, “If you chop down the tree you just saw, you can become a god!” Wu Gang said, “Really? No problem! You should have told me earlier. Becoming a god is so easy!”

After the god disappeared, Wu Gang happily picked up his axe and began to chop down the tree. However, he did not know that the tree was called the “500 laurels” and it required non-stop chopping of 500 times to fall down. Wu Gang, who was quick to give up and had no patience, could not possibly chop down the tree. So, to this day, Wu Gang is still on the moon.
