“The bird that likes to travel” is a story for HSK4 learners. Stories I shared some are Chinese folk tales, and some are my creations.

星期日的下午,我躺在床上看着窗户外面。外面有好多小鸟飞来飞去,牠们又唱歌又跳舞,看起来好开心。突然一只五色鸟飞到了我的窗前,牠慢慢地跳到我身上然后点头说:「你好,我是五色鸟,我一直到处旅游。现在刚好到了你家前面,想请问你可不可以给我一点食物?」
我吓了一跳!这只鸟竟然会说话。我惊讶地看着牠说:「你好,我没想到你会问我问题!」
五色鸟又走了几步,现在离我的脸更近了。「我当然要问你,因为这是你的房子。我是一只很有礼貌的鸟。」牠歪歪头看我。

Xīngqīrì de xiàwǔ, wǒ tǎng zài chuángshàng kànzhe chuānghù wàimiàn. Wàimiàn yǒu hǎoduō xiǎoniǎo fēi lái fēi qù, tāmen yòu chànggē yòu tiàowǔ, kàn qǐlái hǎo kāixīn. Túrán yì zhī wǔsè niǎo fēi dàole wǒ de chuāng qián, tā màn man de tiào dào wǒ shēnshang ránhòu diǎntóu shuō, ” Nǐ hǎo, wǒ shì wǔsè niǎo, wǒ yìzhí dàochù lǚyóu. Vocabulary
1. 五色鸟 Wǔsè niǎo: Psilopogon nuchalis. A kind of bird in Taiwan.
2. 点头 diǎntóu: Nod one’s head.
3. 刚好 gānghǎo: Just right, exactly
4. 吓了一跳 xiàle yí tiào: Shocked
5. 竟然 jìngrán: Unexpectedly
6. 歪头 wāi tóu: Tilt one’s head.
Grammar
1. 飞来飞去 V来V去 V lái V qù
This structure is using to describe that you are “verbing without a clear direction”. It’s kind of like “verbing this way and that.”

Think it over and over again
跑來跑去跑来跑去
Run back and forth.
2. 没想到 没V到 méi V dào
What 到 dào does is indicate that the outcome of the verb is achieved, so here is indicate that didn’t expected (thinking isn’t achieved)
餐廳關了,所以我沒吃到餐厅关了,所以我没吃到
The restaurant is closed, so I didn’t get the food. (eating isn’t achieved)
咖啡賣完了,所以我没買到咖啡卖完了,所以我没买到
Coffee is sold out, so didn’t get it. (Purchase failed)
