The pattern is Subject + 多麼多么 duōme + Adjective, usually closed with an exclamation mark — much like 多多 duō + Adjective + 啊啊 a, but a notch more formal.

Taiwan’s total fertility rate dropped to roughly 0.695–0.7 in 2025 — a record low. Wages haven’t kept up with the cost of living, so for a lot of couples, having kids just isn’t affordable. Public nurseries and preschools are also extremely scarce, which doesn’t help either. At this rate, finding an actual Taiwanese person a few decades from now might take some real effort!

How much she wishes she could see you one more time! (多麼多么 duōme can also intensify a verb phrase like 希望 xīwàng, not just an adjective.)

Only now do I understand how important that decision back then really was. (In writing, 多麼多么 duōme doesn’t always need an exclamation mark — it can sit inside a longer, reflective sentence.)

多麼多么 duōme reads a little more literary than 多多 duō — it’s common in writing, speeches, and heartfelt statements, while 多多 duō + 啊啊 a feels more like everyday chat.
2 Common Mistake
Unlike 多多 duō, 多麼多么 duōme doesn’t need a sentence-final 啊啊 a — adding one on top of the exclamation mark is redundant.
