Before we look up the Chinese words for life at school, let me tell you a terrible fact. In both Taiwan and China, students need to wear uniforms at school. Back in my high school life, we even have a hair ban which should be below your ear less than 3 cm. Every morning teachers will check our socks’ color and length. Make-up, hair wax, nail polish, earrings, and color-contact lens are all prohibited. Not to mention hair dye or perm is not allowed. You ask me why? Because as a student, your duty is to study not to be pretty.

In high school life, every day there was a test on various subjects during the early morning, followed by four classes each lasting about 50 minutes, and a 10-minute recess, sometimes 20 minutes. Lunch break lasts only an hour, and then the same pattern goes all the way to 5 pm. I know it sounds terrible, but I appreciated it a lot. Since you spent so much time with your friends, your high school friends are usually your best friends for your whole life.

Do you want to try Taiwan high school English test? Good luck!

Both 作業/作业 zuòyè and 功課/功课 gōngkè can represent homework; or school assignments. There’s no difference between these two. But the use of “功課/功课 gōngkè” is relatively narrow. 作業/作业 zuòyè can also represent a task or operation and even can use as a verb.

OneDotDot Chinese

Whenever I ask foreigners, "Do you speak Chinese?" they often reply, "a little bit" (yì diǎn diǎn). That inspired me to create this website and translate "yì diǎn diǎn" into the quirky and fun "One Dot Dot."

It’s also a reminder that learning Chinese is a journey, and progress happens one step at a time. By learning just a little bit every day, you’ll go far!
