Grammar Point:
This 過过 guò structure emphasizes that the action has already happened, so there is no need to do it again. It is often used when answering a suggestion or invitation.

Structure

S + V + 過过了 guòle

A:要yào不要búyào喝hē咖啡kāfēi?要yào不要búyào喝hē咖啡kāfēi?
Do you want to drink coffee?

B:我wǒ喝hē過guò了le,謝謝xièxie我wǒ喝hē过guò了le,谢谢xièxie
I already had coffee, thank you.

A:你nǐ來lái得de太tài晚wǎn了le,冰淇淋bīngqílín車chē已經yǐjīng來lái過guò了le你nǐ来lái得de太tài晚wǎn了le,冰淇淋bīngqílín车chē已经yǐjīng来lái过guò了le
You came too late—the ice cream truck has already been here.

B:可惡kěwù!可恶kěwù!
Damn it!

A:你nǐ怎麼zěnme吃chī這麼zhème多duō?你nǐ怎么zěnme吃chī这么zhèyāo多duō?
Why are you eating so much?

B:我wǒ今天jīntiān還沒háiméi吃chī過guò東西dōngxī,餓è死sǐ了le我wǒ今天jīntiān还没háiméi吃chī过guò东西dōngxī,饿è死sǐ了le
I haven’t eaten anything today yet. I’m starving.

媽媽māma妈妈māma:你nǐ今天jīntiān練liàn過guò鋼琴gāngqín了le嗎ma?你nǐ今天jīntiān练liàn过guò钢琴gāngqín了le吗ma?
Mom: Have you practiced the piano today?

孩子háizi孩子háizi:練liàn過guò了le练liàn过guò了le
Child: Yes, I already have.

過过 guò vs 了 le

The 過过 guò gives the feeling of “already had that experience / already did that before.”

我wǒ喝hē了le我wǒ喝hē了le
I drank it.
(a completed action, often answering “Did you drink?”)

我wǒ喝hē過guò了le我wǒ喝hē过guò了le
I already had it.
(I’ve done it, so don’t offer me again)

A1:上次shàngcì跟gēn你nǐ說shuō的de電影diànyǐng,你nǐ看kàn了le嗎ma?上次shàngcì跟gēn你nǐ说shuō的de电影diànyǐng,你nǐ看kàn了le吗ma?
Have you watched the movie I told you about last time?

B1:我wǒ看kàn了le我wǒ看kàn了le
I watched it.
👉 Simple statement (can sound like “I watched it (just now/yesterday)”)

A2:你nǐ要yào不要búyào看kàn這zhè部bù電影diànyǐng?你nǐ要yào不要búyào看kàn这zhè部bù电影diànyǐng?
Do you want to watch this movie?

B2:我wǒ看kàn過guò了le我wǒ看kàn过guò了le
I’ve already seen it.
