Repeating a one-syllable verb — either as V一V or just VV back to back — makes the action sound laid-back, casual, or quick. It’s the difference between “let’s walk” and “let’s take a little walk.”
一 The Basic Pattern: V(一)V
Both repeats have to be a one-syllable verb, and the 一 in the middle is optional — you can say it or drop it, and the meaning stays exactly the same.

Doubling the verb makes the action sound quick and casual. Leaving it plain makes it sound more like a normal, serious action.

喜歡喜欢 has two syllables, so it can’t be doubled — this pattern only works with one-syllable verbs.

Reduplication is for describing an actual, casual action happening — it doesn’t combine with negation. Drop the doubling when you’re saying “don’t.”

一 goes between the two 坐, not in front of both of them.
“I’ll read a little today.”
Only the verb part (讀读) doubles — the object 書书 stays put right after it.

一 never goes in front of the doubled verb — either drop it entirely (VV) or put it in the middle (V一V).
“Take a guess.”
一 goes in the middle, between the two 猜 — not tacked on at the end.
“I like music very much.”
喜歡喜欢 is two syllables, so it never doubles — say it plain.
