Language Reactor
✅繁體 ✅简体
Language Reactor is a super powerful toolbox for learning Chinese. It can use on Netflix, Youtube, books, and websites. I use it for my English and Korean learning, and I feel this can make studying language more effective, interesting, and enjoyable!
How to use Language Reactor
Really easy!! Right now it’s only available for Google Chrome and doesn’t work with Safari, but according to the developers, Safari will also work in the near future.
To get started, open Netflix or Youtube. One thing you need to know is that you must watch Netflix on Chrome instead of in the Netflix app. Next step, choose your mother language. That’s all!
Functions

Enable the LR button next to the volume control, and then you can use all the functions. If you want to relax and enjoy Netflix, you can turn it off.
The top part of the subtitles is the subtitles that you choose on Netflix. You can choose simplified or traditional Chinese, and even Korean or Japanese.

To the right of the video, you can see all the subtitles at one time. If you want to focus on the video or if there are too many subtitles, you can simply hide them.
Enabling the small AP (auto-pause) button will pause the video after each new line of subtitles is displayed. Clicking the video or pause button will resume playback. This is the best function for me, as I find it very useful for watching at my own pace.

If there’s a word you don’t understand, just click it. It will show you the definition and all the examples in this episode.
If you upgrade your account, you can click the star to save the words you don’t know and turn them into flashcards.

If you think the subtitles are too small or too hard to read on the screen, you can click the button on the bottom-right side to add a background layer to make the subtitles more visible.
I think Language Reactor is really helpful for my learning because it helps me to understand and learn natural language from native materials.
By the way, I also noticed that many western countries don’t have a lot of choices for Chinese drama on Netflix. Language Reactor also works with other foreign languages such as Japanese and Korean, so you can definitely use it. Just in case, if you want to watch more modern, daily life drama, you can search for VPN instructions to change your Netflix location to China or Taiwan. You will have much more choices to watch.
