Direction Complements — Extension Practice
Direction complements don’t always describe literal movement. 起来 qǐlái can mark the start of an action, “gather up,” or mean “seems” once you’ve looked/listened/thought about it. 上 shàng can mean “include,” “put on,” “add,” or “achieve/succeed at” a goal. 下 xià can mean “take off,” “have the capacity for,” or “write down.” 出来 chūlái can mean “figure out/tell apart/recognize.” 过来 guòlái can mean “correct” something that was off, or “come to/wake up.” 20 multiple-choice questions — pick the option that completes each sentence.
